(In all due respect to Michael Murphy — in our country, the United States of America, people who have been arrested should all be presumed Innocent until, AND IF, proven Guilty. Mr. Murphy will get his day in court within the next couple months and he and his attorney, I’m sure, will be afforded ample opportunity to publicly present “their side” of this story.
On the flip side, anything involving young children being sexually exploited and violated is just plain horrific in the court of public opinion. And when Mr. Murphy’s wife, Betsy, was elected and entrusted to sort of help serve as a guardian for the upbringing and maturing of Dracut youngsters enrolled in the public school system, then well, it just looks bad.

EDITORIAL COMMENTARY….By John Zimini & Brian Bond
To be clear…. We are not apologizing for BREAKING the story about reports of the arrest and arraignment of Michael Murphy for the possession of child Porn.
This is an absolutely abhorrent and despicable crime! The exploitation of children by these types of predatory people can NOT be tolerated! Michael Murphy faces a future life of ridicule and distain that if & when the allegations are proven, will be a living HELL and will be well deserved! The mere possession of pictures of innocent children of any age, but especially innocent babies, involved in sex acts, is sickening beyond words.
These acts are not the acts of a stable human being. They are sub human and should be dealt with accordingly within the judicial system. It sickens us to even imagine such a person was walking among us. We believe that a much HIGHER power will pass judgment on Murphy and we are sure there will be a special place in HELL for him.
Those of you who will take shots at us for exposing this story should take a good look in the mirror. Those that call us heartless and lacking “humanity” by asking the question “where is your humanity?” . are aiding and abetting these predators! We believe that if we were not keeping an eye on things in Dracut this type of story and others, would have been brushed off or made less of by the Dracut establishment.
Our network of good Dracut citizens help feed us information that otherwise would be suppressed by those who seek to continue their stranglehold on the politics that is Dracut.
To be sure, we do not feel the least bit sorry for Michael Murphy. He should have a long and torturous life. As for Murphy’s family, WE did not bring this on to them. Michael Murphy did…. Anyone suggesting that we did, is culpable in his alleged crimes against innocent children in so far as deflecting shame upon us as a means for comfort to the family.
We understand, but cannot fathom, the pain they will endure in these coming days, weeks, and years. NO Family should have to endure this, but the FACT remains that MICHAEL MURPHY did this to them.. For friends of the family to surround the Murphy family privately and comfort them, is a noble thing to do, but to publicly defend what has happened will unfortunately result in ridicule, distain and disgust in the eyes of a not so compassionate or forgiving public.
The public will not stand idly by, as you can see by the many hundreds of comments, posts and shares on this page, most of which are condemning, as they should be.
School Committeewoman Betsy Murphy…
Now no one here at The Dracut Connection are celebrating the effects this MONSTEROUS act has on School Committeewoman Betsy Murphy.
Betsy is NOT a friend of ours to be sure. She has gone out of her way to hurt our existence. But having said that, we do not “blame” her for this Monster’s actions. Her future actions and how she handles this situation will ultimately be a defining moment for her. We also realize that by the FACT that Betsy “Chose” to be an “elected public” official, she now exposes herself and her family to the scrutiny of the voting populace. Anyone who is politically astute is well aware of the “higher” standard to which an “Elected” official and their family are held. Because of this fact, School Committeewoman Betsy Murphy should do the “right thing” and resign for the Dracut School Committee as well as from her recent School Committee Appointed position on the DATV Board of Directors forthwith!
We do NOT take this position lightly. We believe that for the good of the Dracut School system, but more importantly, for the good of Betsy and her family she needs to step aside. By doing so she can focus on what is ultimately most important to her and her family. Her continued presence on the School Board and the DATV Board of Directors, will only serve as a huge distraction to the important issues facing these boards. Voters and taxpayers will look at her continued presence on these Boards as a defiance of the obvious. They will ask how Betsy can make decisions concerning the safety and welfare of Dracut’s children after these revelations..
For her sake, for her family’s sake, she needs to go quietly into private life to focus on the rebuilding of her family.
